Numerical Study on Aerodynamic Characteristics of High-Speed Planing Trimaran

When the planing hull is sailing at high speed, proportion of air resistance to total increases significantly. Therefore, by studying aerodynamic characteristics shape, we can analyze influence shape on performance hull, and find a method reduce resistance. The research took trimaran as object, completed wind tunnel test, established numerical simulation solving RANS equation combining k-ε turbulence model. Combined with test data, calculation accuracy computational fluid dynamics (CFD) was judged. Then, four superstructure shapes two tail were simulated CFD method, airflow field several drag reduction schemes volume Froude number between 7.00–17.51 analyzed. focuses force hull. results show that circular arc stern has more obvious effect than square stern, streamlined mid-arched certain advantages in effect.
